Lower Normandy - Macedonia, cooperation for the benefit of local self-government

The decentralized cooperation between the region of Lower Normandy and Macedonia is the result of a common will to participate in the development of both regions, by opening to the world and encouraging the population to strive towards a local and European active citizenship through reciprocity and exchange. The project will contribute to creating a platform of sustainable exchange and enable the establishment of lasting connections between the populations of these two European territories, members of the Francophony.

In addition, a protocol for cooperation was signed on February 20, 2007 by the President of the Lower Normandy Region and the Macedonian Ambassador to France.

Hence, a three year cooperation program was prepared by stakeholders from Macedonia and Lower Normandy (November 2007 - November 2010) with local government as a major objective. This program consists of 6 parts:

1. Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
2. Youth, education, local and European Citizenship
3. Informed society and media
4. Cultural and artistic exchanges
5. Sustainable tourism and cultural heritage
6. Partnership between local communities

The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) has been assigned to coordinate this cooperation program.

The Metamorphosis Foundation is coordinating the ICT component.
